About Me
Jennifer Hoffman
Licensed Clinical Social Worker in West Hartford, Connecticut
Maybe you feel like things from the past still come up for you. You're tired of feeling alone. You're hurting and feel ready for some change. I'm ready to work hard if you are.
My Background
I was raised by an inner-city minister so doing service, thinking of others and helping has always been a part of what's important to me. Having a sense of spirituality, an intention to make an impact, has also been a natural part of who I am. I became a therapist because I want everyone to have a place where they feel heard, seen, validated. I know how important the right help is for our sense of belonging and acceptance. I've also graduated from my own 'school of hard knocks' and I believe that if I hadn't sought the support I did along the way, the road would have been even rougher. My role as therapist isn't to tell you what's wrong with you. It's to make sure you know I see your struggle, I get what that emotional pain feels like too, and I am a willing companion, walking beside you, on this part of your journey.

I started out as a graphic designer and my projects in art school were always public health-related, but I ended up in a corporate job. After I realized I could die in my cubicle and no one would notice for days, I started feeding my soul through volunteer work with teens. One day, I decided this was more fulfilling and I started a journey of grad school and career change. My son was 5 when, as a single mom, I quit my job, took out loans, and attended Social Work school full time. I had one friend who supported this decision. Everyone else thought I was absolutely bonkers. That was 18 years ago.
My Purpose
Helping others is my purpose and I look forward to it each day. It's a far cry from that cubicle. Ultimately, I think the healing starts with the connection. So many of us feel misunderstood, invalidated, unappreciated. We have had experiences and people in our lives that made us believe we are never good enough, or normal or just okay. I'm here to listen to your story and be present for you.
Being the Change
I love learning and I am always seeking more knowledge to help you heal. I consult monthly with experts in the field of EMDR and Dissociation and attend monthly peer supervision groups. I also invest in yearly trainings that will help me bring more to the 'therapeutic table' and I seek my own awareness from the practice of meditation and studying Buddhism. I have 16 years experience as a school social worker and 14 years in private practice. I have been trained in Rational Emotive therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness, and I became Certified in EMDR in 2018 and Hypnotherapy in 2022.
I give back by volunteering once a month at a local food pantry, and also by donating monthly to Women for Women International — where I sponsor marginalized women in third world countries to create sustainable change for themselves and their families.
